Absolutely disgusting!! mouldy mattress, mould in the shower vents and a musky smell that destroyed any chance of sleep. By far the worst accommodation i have stayed with!.

I spent 6 nights here and had booked the cheapo room which is in the basement, not very clean and no window so very hot. Was also very noisy as it was near the kitchen. All things i'll gladly endure for $22/night but the beds were very rudimentary with just a thin foam mattress over steel bars. As a result it hurt my back immensely. I talked to the staff about switching to a better room, they upgraded me to the best room in the house with a heavy discount so i basically got a night for free. Overall very happy, the staff were friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were clean, best ones are on the third floor. Cheapest accom in auckland but beware if you have back problems, you'll need to specify you want a room with a spring mattress which are in the premium rooms.

No one answered the door when i tried to check in, meaning i was standing on the street at midnight with my bags waiting for someone to open the door to go in. When i queried that, i was told that the receptionist was 'helping someone else (inside)' and couldn't do both. I pointed out that the person inside was safe and at little risk of being mugged and was shrugged off. The room had curtains which didn't cover the windows (two sides) and looked out on two of the busiest streets in the city. There were also two open windows which couldn't be closed, meaning i didn't get to sleep until the bar out one and the vertical bungee out the other ceased trading at 4am. The shower areas were double doored for privacy, but you couldn't open the shower door and get through past the privacy door if you were more than a 36dd, without serious scraping. It was, without a doubt, the worst hostel i've ever stayed in. And i was only there for 7 hours! admittedly, it was cheap ($32 for shared x4).
