St Arnaud House is the ideal base to explore the surrounding Nelson Lakes National Park. the immediate area offers a very wide range of recreational activities from;

Bird spotting; kea, morepork, kaka, robin, tui, bellbird, to name a few

leisurely strolls along the well-formed tracks beside Lake Rotoiti, to more challenging tramps/hikes and mountaineering that explore the the nelson lakes National park's wilderness.

Fishing the lakes and surrounding rivers, the area is noted as some of the best brown trout fishing that New Zealand has to offer.

Mountain biking for all skill levels on teetotal tracks.

Water activities on lake Rotoiti, i.e.canoeing, boating, swimming with the eels (Kerr bay)

Skiing on the nearby Rainbow Ski Field.
