1 Avoca Street Kaikoura

Price range: $93.50 - $132.00

Welcome to the Pier Hotel, sited on the waterfront at Kaikoura, in New Zealand's South Island; a classic 'Kiwi' country pub. Your host, Steve Kirkpatrick, has brought a lifetime's hospitality experience to his refurbishment of this nineteenth-century character guesthouse.

The Pier is situated 2.5km from the town centre, offering a quiet retreat with magnificent ocean and mountain views. A courtesy coach is available to take guests to and from the town centre (by pre-arrangement).

The bar, with historical photographs and open fire, has been patronised for over a century by the whaling and fishing fleets. It has the authentic atmosphere you'd expect in a country local.

The newly upgraded accommodation features new king-sized or twin beds, with character shared bathrooms in keeping with the 122-year-old history of the hotel.

The 10 bedrooms upstairs in the hotel are configured into single twins, triples (one King, one single bed) and king-bed rooms (share bathroom facilities in keeping with the 122-year-old era of the hotel). The majority of the rooms have access onto the sunny balcony, where many a breakfast and evening cocktail have been enjoyed to the smell of the sea and sun and ocean views. Sunrise and sunsets are in a word?awesome!

We are pleased to be able to offer full Bed and Breakfast at a very affordable rate: breakfast is included in the room price.

All the rooms have recently been refurbished, and have new beds, pillows and linen.

Kaikoura has always been our holiday destination during the festive season.seen that our accommodation in the township was booked out 5 months in advance. Not wanting to move to far from the township and the walks we settled here at the grand old pier hotel . Rooms were victorian style not 5 star but comfortable. We had awesome 4 days here, staff were friendly approachable as was the head chef too. Meals were well presented and tasty. Mention also to the girls that had the task of cleaning the rooms and and doing the stocking....would definitely stay again and recommend to friends.

We stayed at the pier on our way to southland via wanaka. The pier was a great old style country pub with pleasant staff, a great location and an excellent dinner menu. Good value for money. Quiet. Will probably make it my place to stay in future and will and have recommended.

Had a great time staying here on new years eve. The other guests upstairs were great and i had a really good time. The breakfast included was an added extra and was good value for money overall. The only downfall for me was having no ensuite which i thought being a hotel the room would definitely have. .

We had a pleasant stay, we had an ensuite to our room, which was comfortable but no heating which was odd for mid winter, but in fact we weren't cold. A more budget hotel in a lovely setting, with pleasant and helpful staff and we found the continental breakfast adequate. I thought it was better than a youth hostel.
