For a beginner like me, the instruction was top notch and assistance in the water to catch waves very helpful indeed. If I had had a higher fitness level I'm sure I could have reached crouching more than twice, or even reached standing. The packed lunch was like a banquet, with sandwiches (catering to me being vegetarian), crisps, fruit and cookies. I was offered accommodation if I booked the next day too, but had pre-paid accommodation in Paihia and my arms were like jelly from the afternoon session so had to decline. It was unfortunate that the Paihia pickup advertised was not available for just 1 student (was informed upon booking) but that makes sense with people's time and I was able to park my hire car for free in Tutukaka (1.5 hr drive) as directed, with the Salt Air Cafe a great place to warm up with a hot drink.

AWESOME!
Definitely recommend Surfari and the day tripper experience!Simon was a great surf tutor. Friendly and professional. The perfect mix of "Gun it between sets to get out back" and "I'm getting tired just watching you" I took my fiancee on this Surfari for her birthday and she loved it. We both got enough training on technique for us to be up and riding waves surprisingly quickly. this was our second surf lesson(we had done a 2 hour one a year ago)and I have to say not all surf instructors/schools are created equal. Simon's a great guy and an even better Surf instructor(if that's even possible). He gave us some great tips on what type of boards to buy as we will definitely be taking this sport up this summer. It was great. we had a really nice time. I learned a ton, I caught a lot of waves, some by myself some with the teachers aide. We really enjoyed our teacher Simon, I would love to book him again the next time I come to New Zealand.
