20 Alex Telfer Drive Otorohanga

Price range: $24.00 - $59.00

The Otorohanga Kiwi House and Native Bird Park is a great place to see kiwi up close and active in specialised nocturnal/moonlit enclosures. The Otorohanga Kiwi House has been breeding these rare, flightless birds since 1971 and releases kiwi bred to the wild. There are 20 kiwi on site involved in the captive breeding programme and six or more on display in the nocturnal/moonlit enclosures. There's also a great range of other native New Zealand birds and reptiles, including kea and kaka and the ancient tuatara.

The Otorohanga Kiwi House is just 15 minutes from the world famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves.

Our aim: To provide New Zealand's most personal wildlife experience with keeper talks held throughout the day.

Daily Keeper Talks:
?10:30am kiwi
?11:00am kea & kaka (native parrots)
?12:00pm red-crowned kakariki (parakeets)
? 1:30pm kiwi
? 2:30pm NZ long fin eels
? 3.30 pm kiwi

Walk through our huge dome aviary and discover other rare New Zealand birds and reptiles in a lovely park full of native trees and plants.

The Otorohanga Kiwi House is open daily (except Christmas day).
Opening hours:
9.00 am - 5.00 pm (last admission 4.30pm)

The Otorohanga Kiwi House and Native Bird Park is owned and operated by a non-profit organisation dedicated to New Zealand conservation. Every cent earned is re-invested in the day-to-day operation of the Park and the care of the animals.
