This place is perfect for a night stop over on your journey. Yes it is isolated but if peace, quiet and relaxation is what you want then this is perfect!!! good kiwi homecooked meal 5 stars. It is truely a one stop shop. Although would love to see more than one washing machine. .

Chalet ideal for our needs and reasonably priced. Staff helpful and friendly but those in the restaurant and bar seemed more focused on keeping the place tidy than serving customers. Several times we observed them walking past people clearly wanting to order food and drinks to gather up plates and wipe the bar top. Saw at least two people walk out from not being served and one, almost in the face of staff, waited 7 mimutes and 13 seconds ( yes - timed ) before acknowledged and served. And it wasn't that busy. On a positive note saw them go the extra distance to help a late night tourist get some petrol.

Awesome chalet perfect for our needs clean and warm

The Isolation and distance from Haast and Wanaka make the tourist lodge a good place to stop over, especially for young families who like to get out and about and explore the environment. The people in the cafe and Bar are great, and reasonable prices make it affordable we give it the thumbs up in terms of value for money but agree refurbishment is needed. Focusing on safety some of the appliances are in need of replacement particularly the heaters and people should not have to look for electric blankets switches some one should show them. It still suited our needs however and because of the people enjoyed our stay
