Chateau Tongariro Hotel believes in providing visitors with a timeless elegance and believes in preserving history and tradition. It's location within a Dual World Heritage National Park ensures it is an advocate for conservation and it upholds a meaningful relationship with local Maori.

The elegant Chateau Tongariro is located within Whakapapa Village - in the heart of Tongariro National Park and was constructed during the 'roaring twenties' and was also the year that was the beginning of the world's great depression, 1929.

Today, the hotel provides accommodation, restaurants, bars, conference facilities and is a popular wedding destination throughout the year.

The Chateau Tongariro Hotel is surrounded by a stunning natural playground bursting with diverse landscapes for visitors to the Tongariro National Park to discover and is nestled in the shadow of three towering active volcanoes, and at the very foot of the majestic and sacred Mount Ruapehu.

The 800 square kilometre Tongariro National Park?a dual listed World Heritage Area. With arid badlands, crater and alpine lakes, sparkling rivers, breath-taking lunar landscapes, lush rainforest and alpine meadows to be explored, staying at the Chateau Tongariro puts you in the heart of this wonderful environment.

The Chateau itself - a fine example of neo-Georgian sophistication and refinement - is a Category One Heritage Building.

As you arrive at the Chateau, standing under the grand entrance portico, you know you are somewhere special. Before you, an active volcano looms, dramatic in its beauty. Inside, roaring log fires, the glow of grand chandeliers, sublime cuisine and spectacular mountain views await.

In winter and spring, you're literally minutes away from exhilarating ski slopes. Year round, you're on the doorstep of one of nature's finest playgrounds, amongst the world's finest wild trout fishing and at the doorstep of ?New Zealand's best one day walk' - the acclaimed Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

Had been promising ourselves a night at the Chateau for years and were pleased to finally stay in this iconic hotel.
Had a lovely 1 night stay- even some snow to make it better. The staff very helpful and arranged to have the America's Cup on in the Cinema on the Sunday morning.
