The Lake Matheson walk is a must do visitor attraction. 'Picture Perfect' reflections of New Zealand's highest peaks, Mt Cook & Mt Tasman can be captured in the dark waters of this ancient lake formed by the retreat of the Fox Glacier. The best time to capture the perfect reflection is at dawn or dusk, before there is any breeze. A full circuit of the lake takes between 1 - 1.5 hrs or a shorter walk to jetty view point and back is approx 30 - 40 mins return. This section is graded for wheelchair access. |

We have the best views of Mt Cook & Mt Tasman and pride ourselves on fresh and interesting food, great coffee, quality service and a wonderful location. We serve breakfast, lunch, gourmet pizzas, deli style sandwiches, cakes, pies, salads and more. Fox Bus runs door to door shuttles to Lake Matheson from any Fox Glacier or Franz Josef accommodation. We are on the way to Peak View point which has the best glacier views and Gillespies Beach.
