| With truly stunning collections The Kauri Museum tells the unique story of local pioneers through the theme of the Kauri tree. The Kauri Museum is the largest undercover attraction in Northland with over 4000 sq metres of undercover exhibits and receives 80,000 to 85,000 visitors annually. |
| There are many exceptional displays and dedicated galleries to admire including the largest collection of Kauri Gum in the world, a fully furnished 1900s kauri house occupied with dressed models, a magnificent collection of antique Kauri furniture, a huge 22 metre long Kauri slab and a collection of original photographs and pioneering memorabilia. Other displays include restored machinery including NZ's earliest tractor, a 1929 Cat 60 and a turning Steam Sawmill. |
| The kauri tree, Agathis australis, is New Zealand's largest and most famous native tree. Wood from kauri trees is one of the world's great timbers. | The Kauri Museum is located at Matakohe, approximately two hours drive north of Auckland's bridge, just off SH 12 on the Twin Coast Discovery Highway. Day coach excursions available from Auckland.
